Student Sentenced To 25 To Life After Almost Killing Another Student With His Car

Eighteen-year-old Nicholas Kyle Hoffman deliberately accelerated his vehicle, striking and injuring 16-year-old Logan Dandley before fleeing the scene. Hoffman, who was 17 at the time of the incident, faced adult charges of attempted first-degree murder and was convicted in August. Despite the severity of Dandley's injuries, he survived, and on Monday, Hoffman received a life sentence, though it was later suspended to 25 years. Police reports suggest that Dandley had allegedly stolen marijuana from a friend of Hoffman's, leading authorities to believe that Hoffman sought retribution by running over Dandley. Both individuals were students at South River High School in Edgewater, Maryland. State's Attorney Wes Adams condemned the act, describing it as "one of the most callous displays of violence" he had encountered in his 22-year career as a prosecutor.
